Arthur and Chalmers were entertaining women. Arthur denied the marijuana use but not the women.

"I didn't have anything to do with marijuana or anything like that," Arthur said. "I used bad judgment by bringing the girls in and violating the rules," Arthur said. "It was a bad mistake. I'm not a bad kid or anything. I just put myself in a bad situation."

Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley wasn't happy about the news.

"I'm extremely disappointed," Heisley said. "And disappointed is putting it mildly. We're going to have a very serious discussion with Darrell and his agent. We're going to make sure he understands very clearly what the guidelines are."

"He's truly sorry about what happened," Arthur's mother, Sandra, said, expressing her disappointment to the Memphis Commercial Appeal. "He's never been in trouble growing up. The newness, raging hormones and money -- it's tempting. He made a bad choice, and he's paying for it, big time."

Arthur immediately returned to Memphis and had a pow-wow with head coach Marc Iavaroni and general manager Chris Wallace.

"I told them it won't happen again," Arthur said. "I want people to know I'm a good kid. I'm not a troublemaker. I've never really got into trouble. This is the first really bad thing that's happened to me. But I'm going to prove to people that I'm worthy to be on this team, I have good character and I'll be good in the community."
