Forward Rudy Gay didn't score 20 points in a game for the first time this year on Monday. But since the Grizzlies still won, beating the Warriors 90-79, he couldn't have been happier.
Gay doesn't mind being the go-to guy, but he's relieved that he now doesn't have to do all the heavy lifting all the time. "It's important for other guys to step up," Gay said. "I don't necessarily have to take the shot."
Gay said he's happy he's getting help from all areas of the team.
"Marc (Gasol) has been very physical in the middle, Darrell Arthur has had a rebounding presence and it seems we're all playing good team defense," Gay said.
GRIZZLIES 90, WARRIORS 79: Rookie center Marc Gasol continued his fast start this season with 27 points and 16 rebounds. The Grizzlies got off to a good start, shooting 50 percent from the field in the first quarter, and led at the end of the third quarter for the first time this year.
Good ball distribution and solid defense got the Grizzlies over the hump, especially in the third quarter when they had their usual dip.
