The Grizzlies made 2 of 26 3-point attempts in their first two games this season, and before Friday's game at Golden State they were 20 of 64 (31.3 percent).
Grizzlies coach Marc Iavaroni knew outside shooting would be problem this season, especially since the Grizzlies traded Mike Miller to Minnesota on draft night and allowed free agent Juan Carlos Navarro to sign overseas. And though the Grizzlies have one of the best 3-point shooters in NBA history sitting on their bench in street clothes -- Antoine Walker is gathering dust on the inactive list -- Iavaroni believes he can get enough 3's from rookie guard O.J. Mayo and Rudy Gay.
Mayo hit six 3-pointers against the Kings on Wednesday, and reserves Kyle Lowry, Quinton Ross and Greg Buckner combined to shoot 4-of-7 on 3-point tries.
"It would be nice if another guy stepped up and became a 3-point shooting threat," Iavaroni said. "I don't know who that's going to be right now. It is what it is. It's almost perhaps by committee."
GRIZZLIES 109, WARRIORS 104: Rudy Gay hit two big jumpers late and the Grizzlies got a big boost from their bench to get their first road win of the year. With backup center Darko Milicic getting ejected in the second quarter, the Grizzlies had to look elsewhere for points, especially after starting center Marc Gasol fouled out. While Gay's 23 points were important, the inside offense of starting forward Darrell Arthur (13 points, 12 rebounds) and backup forward Hakim Warrick (19 points, 10 rebounds) were doubly important.
