So far, new Grizzlies guard Allen Iverson is saying the right things in training game and trying to be a team leader. He's hoping his experience of being on winning, playoff teams (including an NBA finalist) rubs off on the Grizzlies. "It's easy to stereotype a squad once they've had a losing record for a while," Iverson said. "You start to believe everything people say about you and the confidence level starts to go out the window. That's the fun part about being a veteran -- you get a chance to lead guys somewhere they've never been before and give them something they've never had as far as believing."
Iverson is campaigning to be team captain.
"I think any team that I'm on is my team," Iverson said. "I think this is Zach's team. I think this is Rudy's team. I think this is O.J.'s team. I think this is Mike's team. I think this is Marc's team. It's our squad."
The one thing Iverson doesn't want to be is a sixth man.
"I'd be sitting here lying if I told you I wanted to be a sixth man after being a starter all my life," he said. "But on the basketball court, I pretty much can accomplish anything."
