There are 18 games left in an awful 15-49 season for the Griz, with loss No. 50 on the horizon Saturday at Golden State.
And Grizzlies coach Marc Iavaroni is finding out which players are playing hard and which players have checked out for the year. "We're going through some rebuilding times right now and our concentration is suffering because it's difficult with less than 20 games to go, to really have something hard to play for," Iavaroni said. "We're testing character and we're testing guys' abilities to play through things."
The Grizzlies will catch one break. With the NCAA tournament starting next week and the University of Memphis expected to make a run to the Final Four, nobody in Memphis will care about the Grizzlies until almost the end of the season.
The next three weeks, the FedEdForum will be so empty for Grizzlies home games it will be like the Grizzlies are playing in the federal witness relocation program.
NUGGETS 108, GRIZZLIES 86: Make it 16 straight road losses for the Grizzlies. Even with an injured Allen Iverson (fractured ring finger) scoring just eight points and not even playing the fourth quarter, the Grizzlies got pounded again. Memphis actually led 10-0 at the start of the game and built a 12-point lead before the Nuggets got their dressing room door unlocked and started thrashing the Grizzlies. By halftime, Denver led 46-36, and by the fourth quarter, the Nuggets' reserves were getting quality playing time.
