Memphis Grizzlies Notes, Quotes 2008-10-10
--General manager Chris Wallace learned some foreign diplomacy the hard way. He attempted to encourage Iranian center Hamed Haddadi during practice with a thumbs-up sign. But as Haddadi politely informed Wallace, that gesture in Iran takes on the same meaning as someone flipping a middle finger in the United States.

--F/C Malick Badiane was added to the training camp roster, increasing the roster to 16 players. The 6-10, 240-pound Badiane was a member of the Grizzlies' summer league team. He started all five games and averaged 4.4 points and 4.4 rebounds.

Memphis acquired Badiane's draft rights Feb. 21 in a three-way trade involving Houston and New Orleans. The 24-year-old Senegal native was originally selected by Houston in the second round of the 2003 draft.

--F Brent Petway, a 6-8, 205-pound free agent from the NBA Developmental League, was added to the training camp roster. Petway won the inaugural D-League Slam Dunk contest during 2008 All-Star Weekend. He also played on the Grizzlies' summer league team. Petway played collegiately at Michigan.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I'm like one of the grandpas of the team right now." -- Fourth-year forward Hakim Warrick, the only player left from the Grizzlies' playoff teams that ended a three-year run in 2005-06.
