--The Grizzlies waived F Trey Gilder, who signed as a free agent Aug. 27, cutting their roster to 14 players. Gilder played with a partially guaranteed contract that paid him $25,000. Gilder, a 6-9 forward, had two points, one rebound and a steal in a total of five minutes. "Trey was at a position where he wasn't going to get minutes," Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said. "It creates a spot we may or may not fill. It keeps our options open for the future." The Grizzlies are said to be interested in former 6-9 Florida forward Chris Richard, who last played for Minnesota during the 2007-08 season.
--Memphis is the only team in the league with three players (O.J. Mayo, Zach Randolph and Rudy Gay) averaging more than 20 points per game. Only three other teams (Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Toronto Raptors) have two players averaging 20-plus points.
--Memphis is 0-4 on its current five-game, Western Conference road trip. The Grizzlies have lost seven straight road games dating to last season.
--The Grizzlies entered Friday's game leading the league in rebounding (47.2), offensive rebounding (15.2) and rebounding margin (11.0). But the Lakers, despite Pau Gasol (hamstring) and Andrew Bynum (elbow) missing the Grizzlies game, Los Angeles comfortably outrebounded the Grizzlies, 49-37, including a 18-13 cushion on the offensive boards that led to 21 second-chance points for the Lakers.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "What Allen said was inappropriate, but I'm not going to make a big deal out of it. Allen expressed his frustration about not playing and I understand that. It's up to the coach to handle these issues." --Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley, backing Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins' decision to bring Allen Iverson off the bench, after Iverson complained about his role.
