--Thinking they won't see Allen Iverson anytime soon, the Grizzlies signed free agent guard Jamaal Tinsley on Saturday. Tinsley, 31, has career averages of 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.66 steals in 30.2 minutes in 398 games over seven seasons (2001-08) with the Pacers. He was waived by Indiana on July 22 and agreed to a contract buyout. Pacers president Larry Bird essentially told Tinsley to stay away from the organization because of his brushes with the law, including participation in a barroom brawl. "He's a great playmaker," Grizzlies forward Stephen Hunter said. "He's very efficient with his movement."
--PG Mike Conley took the news of Tinsley's signing with a grain of salt
"I've had it all this year, people trying to get my position," Conley said.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I've known him for a while. He's a good guy." -- Grizzlies PG Mike Conley, on Jamaal Tinsley.
