--G O.J. Mayo donated 500 turkeys and 500 hams so 1,000 families in the Huntington, W. Va., area can have a better Thanksgiving. The food was distributed Saturday at the A.D. Lewis Community Center, where Mayo honed his athletic skills as a youngster. Mayo's mother said it was her son's way of expressing his love for his hometown and the people who live there. In September, the Grizzlies guard paid for food and personal care items that were given to 400 families in Huntington. --The Grizzlies leave Tuesday on a five-game West Coast swing. They are making their second extended trip this season after playing five straight road games Nov. 1-7. Coach Lionel Hollins feels much better about his team this time starting an extended road trip as compared to last time just a few weeks ago.
"You need maturing to win on the road," Hollins said. "You can see the growth. The young players are getting better."
--The Grizzlies had 21 assists in 41 baskets against the Kings
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We haven't forgotten about how it was a few weeks ago. That keeps us motivated. Nobody wants to see the lack of effort that we had and the distractions we had. We're trying to forget, but that's what keeps pushing us." -- Point guard Mike Conley on what motivates the team.
