--F Rudy Gay has averaged 19 points in his last two games since he missed Monday's game at Utah to attend a family funeral. His grandmother's last living sibling died. Gay said his grandmother was happy he came to the funeral, but wanted him to get back to work. "My grandma said go back and fight," Gay said.
--Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley has no hard feelings about Allen Iverson signing with the 76ers after the Grizzlies' ill-fated Iverson experiment.
"I'm ecstatic," Heisley said. "I think having Allen in the NBA is good for the league. I don't wish him anything but the best.
"For various reasons, it just didn't work out between us. He got injured in training camp and he wanted to start as soon as possible. When that didn't happen it spiraled out of control. But we didn't run him away. It wasn't Lionel (Hollins') fault. It wasn't Allen's fault. It was circumstances."
--Memphis scored its third straight victory over Dallas. The Grizzlies did that by holding Mavs All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki to 16 points on 7-of-22 shooting. Nowitzki entered the game averaging 27 points per game. Last year, Nowitzki averaged 31.5 points on 53.2 percent shooting against Memphis.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "No one expected us to win (Friday night). But you keep grinding, pluck a win here, pluck a win there. Sooner or later, you get respect from the refs, the fans and most of all the rest of the NBA." -- Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, on his team's night-in, night-out goals.
