--C Hasheem Thabeet can't wait to bang bodies with F Zach Randolph and vice-versa.
"Having an older guy on the team is just going to be great," Thabeet said. "I think he'll help us a lot." Randolph promises to toughen Thabeet.
"He's got huge upside," Randolph said. "I just need to be a little rough and practice hard. That's what got me better. I was practicing against Rasheed Wallace, Scottie Pippen, Dale Davis, Arvydas Sabonis every day. They pushed me around, and that's how I got better."
--Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace was happy with C Hasheem Thabeet's play in the Las Vegas Summer League, in which he averaged 8.2 points and 4.6 rebounds for a Grizzlies team that was unbeaten.
"We saw, at times in Las Vegas, his ability to impact games with his size, his shot blocking, his work on the boards," Wallace said. "We like the attitude and the spirit he's shown so far. We've really thrown a lot at him and really have worked with him. He's going to be a very important part of this team. He's got that size and those defensive capabilities that we've lacked for so long.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I want to be the first guy at the gym, come to practice and work hard every day, because they're going to look up to me. I love to play basketball, love to practice." -- New Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph, on being an example for his younger teammates.
