--The Grizzlies have backup plans in case G Allen Iverson goes elsewhere. They have kept in contact with other veteran free-agent guards, such as former Grizzlies guard Brevin Knight, Tyronn Lue, Jacque Vaughn and Luther Head. Each of those players would be a minimum-salary acquisition.
--Memphis is also interested in Ronald "Flip" Murray, but Murray would eat up part or all of the Grizzlies' cap space. --F Rudy Gay will become a restricted free agent next summer unless the Grizzlies agree to a contract extension by Oct.31. GM Chris Wallace said negotiations have been amicable.
"I don't see any reservations from Rudy and his camp," Wallace said. "The city and the franchise have served him well. These types of negotiations take their own course. I wouldn't read anything positive or negative with where we are."
Gay said he wants to stay in Memphis.
"I love Memphis. Memphis has been my home and this is where I want to be," Gay said. "I really believe this is where I can make big things happen for myself and the Grizzlies. I like what's happened this summer. There was definitely a lot of thought put into this offseason with all the changes. I guess we'll know more about what the changes mean when the season starts."
QUOTE TO NOTE: "Memphis is a place that I would love to play. The Grizzlies have good young players with a great upside. I love the city of Memphis too." -- G Allen Iverson, writing on his Twitter account.
